Action Required: Mastercard Acceptor Contact Data Requirements
To comply with updated Mastercard network requirements, TabaPay will begin populating Acceptor Contact Data, specifically an Acceptor Website URL and an Acceptor Customer Service Phone Number, on all processed Mastercard transactions. Mastercard began monitoring this data under its updated requirements on October 1, 2026, and its compliance date is April 1, 2027.
This initiative is part of Mastercard standards to enhance transaction transparency across digital and recurring commerce. Transmitting direct, accurate merchant contact details enables cardholders to easily identify purchases and contact merchants directly with questions, helping reduce unrecognized transaction inquiries, bank customer service calls, and avoidable chargebacks.
How Cardholders See This Information
This contact data does not replace or modify your primary 22-character merchant statement descriptor (DBA name and location).
Mastercard instructs issuing banks to make this additional contact data available to cardholders on periodic account billing statements (within extended transaction detail sections) and inside digital, mobile, and online banking applications. When a cardholder views an individual transaction in their banking app or portal, your website URL and customer service phone number can be displayed directly on the transaction detail card.
Because cardholders see this data when reviewing their account activity, the information transmitted must be public, recognizable, and directly associated with your customer-facing business.
What TabaPay Will Populate
For each transaction submitted under your merchant account, TabaPay will systematically populate:
- Acceptor URL: The public website address of the business where the cardholder placed the order or transacted.
- Acceptor Customer Service Phone Number: The dedicated 10-digit telephone line cardholders can call for transaction inquiries, billing questions, or order support.
TabaPay will populate these fields using the merchant contact data currently maintained on file in our processing system.
Contact Data Rules and Technical Standards
All contact data transmitted across the card network must satisfy Mastercard technical validation standards and business rules.
| Field | Formatting Requirements & Best Practices | Causes of Non-Compliance & Errors |
|---|---|---|
| Acceptor URL | Must contain the public customer-facing website domain (1 to 255 characters, left-justified). Must include at least one period, characters before the period, and at least two letters after the period (e.g. merchantname.com). Mandatory for all e-commerce and card-on-file merchants. | URL is omitted on e-commerce, contains spaces (leading, internal, or trailing), contains @ (email addresses), lacks a period, or uses a generic parent or payment aggregator portal URL instead of the customer-facing store. |
| Customer Service Phone | Must contain a dedicated 10-digit customer service telephone line for US and Canada (NPA-NXX-XXXX). Numbers must be numeric digits only. | Phone contains country code 1, hyphens, parentheses, spaces, letters, or extensions. Prohibited dummy values include all zeros (000-000-0000) or administrative fax lines. |
Website URL Requirements
- E-commerce merchants must provide a website URL: Any merchant accepting payments online, in a mobile application, or via digital channels must provide a website address. Submitting only a phone number is not permitted for digital commerce.
- Must reflect the specific customer-facing brand: Under network rules for sponsored merchants and payment aggregators, the URL must be the specific website where the consumer conducted business. A generic parent company domain, payment facilitator website, internal portal, or administrative staging link cannot be used.
- Technical formatting syntax: The URL must be between 1 and 255 characters, left-justified, and contain at least one period with characters before and after the period (e.g.
merchantname.com). It must not contain spaces (leading, internal, or trailing) and must not contain an@symbol. Email addresses are not accepted.
Customer Service Phone Requirements
- Direct support line: The phone number must connect cardholders directly to your customer service or support team.
- 10-digit numeric format (U.S. and Canada): For merchants operating in the United States and Canada, the number must be exactly 10 digits including the area code (NPA-NXX-XXXX). It must not include a leading country code
1, hyphens, parentheses, spaces, letters, or extensions. - Prohibited values: Numbers consisting of all zeros, dummy numbers (such as
000-000-0000), and general administrative fax lines are strictly prohibited.
If an online merchant has no customer support phone, omitting the field is acceptable provided their customer-facing website URL is populated. This does not apply to mail order, telephone order, or recurring transactions, which require a customer service phone number.
Merchant Action Required
TabaPay will automatically populate contact data from our existing records; however, because these fields appear directly before cardholders on banking platforms, all merchants and partner organizations must verify that their contact details on file are current, public, and accurate.
-
Review your contact information: Confirm that the primary website URL and customer service phone number associated with each of your merchant IDs (MIDs) meet the standards outlined above.
-
Submit corrections or updates: If your customer-facing website domain has changed, if your customer service phone number requires updating, or if your account previously listed an administrative email or generic parent address, submit an update request immediately.
How to Submit Updates
To confirm the Acceptor Contact Data TabaPay has on file, or to update it, contact [email protected] or your dedicated Client Success representative. For updates, include the following information:
- Organization or ISO name
- Merchant Legal Name and DBA Name
- Merchant ID (MID) and Card Acceptor ID (CAID)
- Updated Acceptor URL (public e-commerce domain)
- Updated Acceptor Customer Service Phone Number (10 numeric digits)
Onboarding for New Merchant Accounts
All new merchant and subclient onboarding requests must include a compliant website URL and a 10-digit customer service phone number at the time of registration. Submissions for e-commerce accounts that omit a website URL will be flagged for correction prior to activation.
