Visa Response Code Updates

Visa is actively implementing changes to reduce incorrect response codes from Issuers. TabaPay clients may see changes in the response codes received. Starting 25 April 2026, reclassified response codes will count towards the issuer’s generic response code count, which is used to calculate the Generic Response Codes System Integrity Fee.

Defining Categories 1-4

  • Category 1 - Issuer will never approve. No reattempts permitted.

  • Category 2 – Issuer cannot approve at this time. Up to 20 reattempts permitted in 30 days.

  • Category 3 - Data Quality, revalidate data prior to reattempt. Up to 20 reattempts permitted in 30 days.

  • Category 4 – Generic Response Code. Up to 20 reattempts permitted in 30 days.
